Begin your first step in investment banking with five weeks of practical work experience

In this 5-week externship, you will be treated as an investment banking trainee and receive weekly training provided by Mr. Weimin Chen, the Managing Director and Head of China of Houlihan Lockey and former General Manager of Lazard (Beijing). This is a combination of industry-leading masterclasses and project-based learning, enabling you to absorb both technical knowledge and gain relevant work experience.

Your Instructor

Mr. Weimin Chen Managing Director and Head of China of Houlihan Lockey

Mr. Chen is Houlihan Lokey's head of China, responsible for overseeing and developing the company's investment banking business in the Chinese market. Before joining Houlihan, he was the General Manager of Lazard（NYSE: LAZ) in Beijing, another well-known investment bank specializing in mergers and acquisitions and restructuring.

Before joining Lazard, he was the Chief Financial Officer of Trina Solar (SHA: 688599) where he successfully managed the transition of IPO process.

Mr. Chen holds an MBA degree from London Business School and a bachelor's degree in Economics from Beijing University of International Business and Economics.

Mr. Chen donates all proceeds to charities to support the public education and nurture the next generation.

Five-Week Investment Banking Experience
THE 1ST WEEK
The Nature of Investment Banking

Mr. Chen will share his 30 years of experience in the financial field as an industry leader, head of investment banking and CFO of listed companies. He will also share tips and secrets for successful investment banking.

THE 2ND WEEK
Cross-border M&A

As China's economy grows, cross-border mergers and acquisitions are becoming more and more popular in the investment banking world. But how exactly does cross-border M&A work? What are the main considerations? What deal structures and financing options are available? How to conduct valuation analysis and due diligence? Mr. Chen will discuss all these issues as well as common problems in cross-border M&A in China based on his years of field experience and case studies.

THE 3RD WEEK
Privatization of China Concept Shares

China Concept Stock refers to Chinese companies listed on overseas stock exchanges, such as Alibaba, Tencent, China Mobile. However, there has been a recent trend towards privatization, leading to volatility in U.S.-listed Chinese concept stocks. Will giants like Baidu, Alibaba or Tencent be privatized? This week's focus will be on the mechanics of privatization, the reasons for privatization, the privatization process and considerations. We will look at case studies and other issues, such as how the crisis of confidence in China concept stocks will affect China concept stocks.

THE 4TH WEEK
Restructuring

COVID-19 has exacerbated the debt problems faced by many large, cash-flow-constrained companies. To avoid bankruptcy, companies need to restructure their capital to increase their liquidity. This section will combine Mr. Chen's case study to explore how investment banks can help clients with recapitalization, key strategic and tactical solutions, and the impact of transactions.

THE 5TH WEEK
Macro Analysis

In addition to understanding different trades and transaction types, learning macroeconomic analysis and keeping abreast of market trends is also very important to your investment banking career. In this section, Mr. Chen will share with you his views on the recent market uncertainty and difficulties, analyze how it will affect mergers and acquisitions and restructuring, and how Chinese investors can look for opportunities in the crisis. Our externship program offers no salary. The purpose of Externship is to give you a career head start.

B) Time commitment and timeline

The estimated time commitment for the Externship program is approximately 4-10 hours per week. Of course, this is totally adaptable to your schedule and needs. Our Externship program includes work experience as well as training courses. The more work you get done, the more you can put on your resume.

There is no fixed schedule, you can work at your own pace. It's completely adaptable to your needs and schedule. We expect you to spend at least 1 hour per week training and learning from our top instructors, while also setting aside a few hours to work on your assigned projects.

We understand that you may have other jobs or assignments. So if you're busy at school, you can ask to postpone or stop the task. That said, if you can spend 4 to 10 hours a week on the Externship program, your resume will be richer and you can develop a professional acumen that when you go to an interview or work in an actual workplace will come in handy.

C) Application

There are no prerequisites for our Externship program. We understand that different students have different backgrounds. Some are studying science, some are freshmen, some are looking for career transition, etc.

Therefore, we've built an Externship program that works for all students, so even if you're a complete beginner, you can get started and get started without any hassle.
